Coastal Competition – A Win For Our Seniors

The Gulf Coast Tiny Home DIY Challenge is a bold, purpose-driven initiative uniting nonprofits, foundations, faith-based groups, builders, and donors across Sarasota and the greater Gulf Coast. Our mission is rooted in compassion: to serve the very seniors who helped build our communities — many of whom now face housing insecurity and social isolation. This challenge is a regional call to action to ensure that no one gets left behind.

We are launching a friendly but impactful competition to restore 25 tiny homes in Sarasota — each paired with a senior in need. Participating teams will adopt a home, connect with a local senior, and renovate the space with care, quality, and heart. The goal is not just to fix homes, but to uplift lives, restore dignity, and reignite a sense of community.

Here’s how it works: Organizations can sponsor a home with $5,000, which goes directly toward their project. Teams — either from a single organization or in partnership with others — will have 60 days to complete the renovation, working hand-in-hand with their senior. Each home completed becomes a beacon of hope, and participating teams will have a chance to win up to $10,000 in prize funding, along with regional recognition as a Gulf Coast Champion of Compassion.

But this challenge is about more than competition — it’s about collaboration. Throughout the project period, we’ll host community build days and special sessions to foster connection, share tools and knowledge, and celebrate our collective progress. These moments will spark long-term partnerships and new cross-sector opportunities around housing, aging, and social impact.
